Welcome Message
On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to welcome you to the 3rd International Workshops on Advances in Computational Mechanics (IWACOM-III) at Ryogoku, Japan, during October 12-14, 2015. This conference aims to provide chances to young researchers for intensive discussions about their own selected topics and identify future directions for the development of related modeling strategies and computational techniques. Furthermore, this conference is one of the events arranged for the 20th anniversary of the Japan Society of Computational Engineering and Science (JSCES). The IWACOM series started in 2004, which was held at Hosei University, Tokyo, co-organized by the Computational Mechanics Division, the Fluids Engineering Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) and Hosei University Information Technology Research Center. The IWACOM-II was held in 2010 at Yokohama, co-organized by the Computational Mechanics Division of the JSME and Yokohama National University. Now, we are proud to announce the opening of IWACOM-III.
IWACOM-III consists of 9 organized workshops as follows:
OW1: Recent development in structural and multidisciplinary optimization
OW2: Structural collapse / structural impact analyses
OW3: Multiscale simulation and materials modeling
OW4: High performance computing for computational engineering and science
OW5: Mesoscale simulations for materials and fluids
OW6: Simulation for natural disaster mitigation and environmental problems
OW7: Computational biomechanics at nano and micro scales
OW8: Particle simulations for fluid and solid mechanics
OW9: Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Advanced Materials
All the speakers of the workshops are invited ones. 156 abstracts including 2 plenary lectures, 54 talks by the speakers from abroad and 102 by the speakers from Japan, are included in this proceedings.
IWACOM-III is sponsored by the Maeda Engineering Foundation, the Kajima Foundation, the New Technology Development Foundation, Insight Inc., CenterPEER Co., Prometech Software, Inc., JSOL Co., FUJITSU LIMITED and Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc.
We would like to express our gratitude for the contributions by the Advisory Committee members of the JSCES and the Organizing Committee members. In particular, a special thank goes to Ms. Y. Ishizuka, the secretariat of the JSCES for carrying out many troublesome jobs. Finally, we thank you for your contribution to the IWACOM-III and hope you have a wonderful experience in Ryogoku, famous for Sumo wrestling and other traditional Japanese cultures.
